I Doubt Thompson Would Approve

TODAY’S FRED THOMPSON RALLY IN COOKEVILLE: I thought about going, but we’ve been a bit under the weather. But reader Jim Brown emails this YouTube video: "It was filmed and edited by my fifteen year old Grandson, Matthew Matheson. I was late in picking him up so he missed the first part of the rally. He makes and designs web sites and has all the latest technology and software to work with. He is young, but very good. Who knows? He might start making political commercials for the candidates."

I think he already has.

I’m going to have to respectfully disagree with Glenn on this one. Watching the video, the only substantive issue addressed comes via a fellow with a deep southern accent talking about radical Islam being "sheltered" by moderate Islam who won’t stand against it and then going on to cite the world’s high birth rate of Muslims versus the West. And it’s all spun around a web of Conservative thought.

I’m not disputing the points, and the theme may play well across the Right blogosphere, but I doubt very much if it’s a theme Thompson wants to embrace too closely, unless he wants to feed right into a mainstream media more than happy to paint conservatives in a negative light.

It looked like a nascar race without the cars.
    Surge on, rednecks!!

Does he have a choice? Seems to me anyone who does not embrace the few facts about radical Islam that man mentioned is playing with political fire. Truth to power. Who wants a president who plays to the crowd?

Thompson’s a ladies man. I’m sure he’ll get behind an initative on this. Finally, we can have a President who supports the best of both worlds. Make Love AND War.

    Funny, Zif. :)
Mormons have the second highest birthrate. I wonder who’ll win? Two religions that want world dominance by spawning.
“…spun around a web of conservative thought.” What is ‘conservative thought’ anyway? We used to know. Now we don’t.

The problem is less that we do not know what conservative thought (see below) is… it is more that we see a field of useless candidates who stray from conservative thinking in part or in whole… or worse, are lousy, sycophantic panderers who will say all the right things, but upon taking office, will only fatten their own wallets and the wallets of their closest “supporters”.
Conservative thinking for me, however is this – both a mixture of personal and public values:
    * Minimal Federal government (relegating more of the funding and power back to state and local governments)
    * Guns: Let every American be assured of his/her rights to use, and to well trained in the use of firearms. Every American male is a member of the “unorganized militia” according to United States Code, and IAW the 2nd Ammendment should be “regulated” (in the 1776 usage of the word: trained well) in the use of his firearms.
    * Western Principles: Our institutions of justice and government derive largely from Western Civilizations of Rome and Greece, and are refined by the noblest influences of Christianity and Judaism, from which Christianity springs forth from.
    * Border Control: Clamping down on immigration in general, and especially from Mexico and the Middle East (particularly Muslims) must be stopped, and illegal aliens deported en-masse. The Mexican border must be walled off, mined and secured by National Guardsmen, the US Coast Guard, the Organized Militiae (State Guards/Naval Militiae) and Muslim places of assembly (mosques/masjids/community centers) monitored and surveilled as enemy intelligence units. Islam itself, particularly Salafist and Wahabbist or any group endorsing Jihad should be appropriately identified as “enemy aliens” and their “religion” as an “enemy ideology”.
    * Environment: Conservative environmentalism calls for maintaining our national and state parklands, encouraging and instructing our children to become faithful stewards of the land, waters, and resources God has given us, and also to save energy. Avoid wasteful practices and recycle. Turn off the lights and unplug electronic components when they are not being used. Plan trips to save gas by combining errands in a logical path of travel. Grow food locally as much as possible, and possibly reduce the amount of travel and carcinogenic preservatives needed to keep them “fresh” in transit.
    * Energy: Develop nuclear (primary) and renewable (secondary) to reduce our reliance on unstable supplies of foriegn oil. Develop the ANWR and explore more efficient technologies for extracting oil shale (the USA has the biggest reserve of oil shale in the world), and use it for producing goods which cannot be replaced by alternatives to petroleum (such as most plastics). Develop mass-transit in cities based upon lite rail, and inter-city transit similar to France’s TGV or Japan’s Shinkansen (Bullet train) to connect our coastal cities and reach into the interior.
    * Fiscal policy: Save and invest money wisely. Encourage a culture of savings (whereas the average American is mired in tens of thousands of dollars in consumer credit debt).
    * Acknowledgement of Diety: Judaeo-Christianity has been the spiritual backbone of America from well before the Union, go as far back as the Mayflower Compact and the Jamestown Charter. Unless we all personally turn to Jesus Christ and repent of our sins by asking His forgiveness and asking Him to be truly Lord in our lives, a national revival for Christ in our land will not happen. Even if a truly great man were to become a Presidential Candidate aside from the current batch of rascals and rabscallions seeking office, it would mean little if the entirety of our nation, our people, and our institutions persist in wallowing in a sow’s mire of immorality and rebellion, separated from the blessed will of our Great God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
    * The “Freedom of Public Expression of Faith Ammendment”:
Since “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof…” it is up to the people to support an Ammendment to constitutionally enshrine Judaism and Christianity as “the founding spiritual traditions of the United States”. Such an ammendment would not compel or force people to convert, nor would it grant special favour to churches or synagogues, but simply recognize that Judaism and Christianity are in fact, the very spiritual pillars which, when built upon by faithful men and women, helped make the American Republic great, by the glory of God.
A key point of this would be to allow teachers or other people with employment by local, state, and the federal government to express and share their faith or set up religious displays or hold faith-based events with others without any repercussions.

  7. Phoenix says:

Nice job, Seek. As thoughtful as always.
I have no problem with religious displays and events such as you mentioned, but I think people have tired so of others becoming offended that they’ve given in and said no to all of them. I can’t blame them. I don’t know that we need any government declarations on it, though. All that does is marginalize others. I’m not much for religion anyway, but it would be nice if people just respected their right to practice without making it someone else’s problem. <—- Can’t believe I said something so dumb considering world affairs at the moment……
