The way I see it – McCain was deciding to fight or flee the GOP
here. He decided to stay because with Jeffords jumping, he lost
leverage with the Dems in terms of seniority, assignments, etc. As
an Indie, with the Dems in control, he could have got what
Looks like people have finally
woken up to the threat to the GOP of a McCain nomination. Read
it all at link, too. Solid praise for Romney and Hastert claims to
have known all the candidates and worked with them, as well.
Former House Speaker Dennis Hastert questioned John McCain’s
Romney versus McCain Do people really want a vote for Huckabee, of all people, to end the Reagan era of Republicanism? Because, that, and nothing else, would be the result. Without Huckabee, Romney toasts McCain.
Update: Question: How the hell is John "Straight Talk" McCain
going to debate Hillary or Obama without being humiliated for
having flip-flopped on issues on which he worked with them so
closely behind the scenes? We know from watching the Republican
debates his responses have been nothing but spin. Should...
(AP) – Republican John McCain says he opposed President Bush’s
tax cuts because they didn’t come with spending cuts. That is not
what he said at the time.
In a presidential debate on Wednesday, McCain said he voted
against the Bush tax cuts because he wanted to rein in
The Corner has an
item up that appears to be false.
Will McCain, who finished 894th out of 899 at the Naval Academy
and who lost five jets, return competence to the White House?
I’d wager it comes from
this story which mentions his Father getting his wings at age
Not a policy wonk, I hadn’t been aware that John McCain
sponsored another Bill as recently as 2005 that went after First
Amendment rights of Grass Roots organizers and some feel gun owners, in
particular. It was so bad, conservatives in his own Party tried
to work to cut him off.
You need to appreciate the full context of this Levin piece
linked below. He is a pundit with a successful and, I would assume,
lucrative broadcasting career. They do not gain from making
pronouncements such as this. It is a complete risk in the sense of
the buzz and reputation...
Is this the guy Van der Sloot threw wine on in a
recent TV event in Holland? Damn. Strange case – just doesn’t
want to go away. The question is, is this valid, or a troll for
a TV special? Maybe...
Well, it looks like more
less than straight talk from the straight talk express: So,
McCain looked a reporter in the eye and, in essence, lied. Where
have we seen that before? Or, is he just getting old and doesn’t
remember things, anymore? Hmm. The express has hit another...
Update: I didn’t read the date – this is from 2000. Drudge has
it up. Not sure how this plays. But, as I said below, the gloves
are obviously off.
Yeah, the gloves are coming off. When I clicked in, I’m
thinking, okay, how long ago was this?
Update: Hot Air
The Romney camp is claiming to be playing in CA
with paid media. A recent poll has him down by only 4 in the
state. That’s good
news. He can carve out a good number of delegates there.
The game now is to strategically go after states,
Plenty of discussion of it at links
Isn’t it fair to expect a little craziness when you wake up
thinking your party’s political platform this year might look in
part like it was drafted by the other side – with John Edwards
taking the lead? If hearing "bad guys on Wall...
The Berkeley City Council is attacking the US Marines with words
and ordinances. I wish they’d try the real thing. I think the
Marines could handle a little scrap with the town council just fine
on their own. I’m not thinking peace loving, either.
The City of Berkeley, California has passed two...
This landed on me like a ton of bricks tonight while reading
Hugh Hewitt’s post-debate post:
Romney began by listing the series of assaults on conservative
values championed by McCain including McCain-Feingold,
McCain-Kennedy, the McCain-Lieberman global warming regulatory
monster, the opposition to exploration in ANWR and the votes
Victor Davis Hanson on
the Right’s rejection of McCain. I am growing increasingly
tired of these one hit wonders – (it’s the GWOT, stupid) – who
believe that only the candidate with the most heated rhetoric
against radical Islam can protect America. I happen to believe all
the Republican challengers...
Oops – watch it from 1 minute in, it picks up again at 2
I’m not being snarky here. Bryan also
half-way mentions it in passing – but focuses on the
public/private aspect. But wait, I don’t mean the time tables
issue, that’s a McCain ploy … I think. It’s the...
what the Republicans want to nominate for the Fall?
Good luck with that. Let me know when the bleeding is done.
As I said previously, perhaps the GOP establishment feels 08 is
already lost and they’re happy to watch the Maverick get gut shot
in the street. No genuinely insightful and...
McCain is a liar and smug looking scumbag. Even if he gets the
nod, I’ll relish watching him lose in November. He’s continuing his
lie about Romney and time tables when everyone knows the truth and
he has a smug look on his face while doing it. This clown
