Left’s Pathetic Attack On Republican Iott For German Re-enactment Participation

October 9, 2010

Led by the increasingly pathetic Atlantic, the Left is attacking Republican House Candidate Rich Iott for having participated in military re-enactemnt activities as a German soldier. Iott is running in OH – 9. His website. More on Iott and progressive incumbent Marcy Kaptur, one of the Stupak 11, here.

They are unfairly trying to paint Iott as a Nazi. From History of War On Line, here is a list of reenactment groups focused on the German army. It's about military history, not Nazism, not that the Left has any real fondness for the former, either. But this is what they do, it's who they are – they'll smear anyone for anything if they think it might help them hold onto power.

  3. Lightwave says:

Iott’s running against Marcy Kaptur in a D+10 district. You know that Kaptur is in real danger of losing if she’s stooping to this level of mudslinging.
Yet another piece of evidence that Democrats privately believe they will lose scores of seats in November.

  4. Mark S. says:

Okay, now this definitely.. *sniff sniff*… smells of desperation.. if that’s the best they can do

  5. Scott says:

The Democratic left’s sugar daddy, the man who contributes to the Center for American Progress, and smear merchants such as Think Progress, Media Matters, and MoveOn.org, George Soros, was a “kapo” during WWII. He literally led his fellow Jews to the ovens. And he told Steve Kroft during a televised interview that he has a clear conscience about it. After all, if he didn’t do it, someone else would.
    Where’s the real evil?

  6. nishner says:

TeaTards smear Obama with fake photos of him dressed in Nazi uniforms.
TeaTards defend TeaTard candidate photographed in Nazi uniform.
Nothing like celebrating the people that murdered 6 million Jews and started a war that killed over 50 million people and over 400,000 Americans.
He says he dressed up as a Nazi to bond with his kid.
    TeaTards defending Nazi sympathizers. Priceless
    Sieg Heil!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. barfo says:

Haha, nothing to see here, nothing at all.
    Move along.
    Macht Schnell!

  8. mark l. says:

    ohio demographics:
    1.German (28.9%)
    2.Irish (14.8%)
    3.English (10.1%)
    4.Polish (8.4%)
    5.Italian (6.4%).
oh no!!! between the axis powers of the germans and the italians of ohio, and the agnosticism of the irish, it appears the iott is capable of creating the fourth reich.
at least no one can say that playing the ‘nazi card’ is a case of ‘too soon’.
the inherent assumption is that the dems have actually focused on educating the youth of ohio over the past 30 years. I guess they found time among teaching global warming, my two dads/moms, how to roll a condom, etc…
to remind kids that when someone waves the nazi cheese, you better start voting democrat.
    the district is dem +9.
the dems are already slated to lose the governor’s race, the senate race, and 5 other dem held districts in the state. If they have pulled the fire alarm on this district, they are merely confirming how bad the slaughter will be…

  9. mark l. says:

“Nothing like celebrating the people that murdered 6 million Jews and started a war that killed over 50 million people and over 400,000 Americans.”
was the achieved be decentralizing power away from the german govt, or by ‘not letting an economic crisis go to waste’? seems hitler took advantage of an economically depressed nation and blended nationalism with socialism.
    hitler ‘wanted’ a powerful govt.
    repeat after me school children:
    barack hussein obama…mmmm, mmmm, mmmm!

  10. barfo says:

“Nothing like celebrating the people that murdered 6 million Jews and started a war that killed over 50 million people and over 400,000 Americans.”
Now, now, I’m sure there’s a perfectly innocent explanation why Herr Iott chose to re-enact Josef Mengele’s Waffen SS unit instead of one of the regular, non-Nazi German army units.

  11. mark l. says:

    forget nazi reenactments…
the dem congress apparently decided to perform a ‘holocaust’ reenactment.
instead of the gop building the ovens and forcing the dems into them, the dems decided to create their own ‘electoral ovens’ and are now proceeding to climb in…
i think I caught a whiff of feingold, slowly baking.

  12. mark l. says:

i saw an ohio poll a while back…
‘bushitler’ is polling higher than the messiah.
why are ohio-ans trying to recreate the third reich?
i guess no one can accuse bill ayers of trying to recreate the reichstagg firebombing incident. he wanted to claim credit for it.
face it libs, you guys are going to be blubbering worse than glenn beck after this election, but the trancripts will read pretty much the same.

  13. Well, at least he doesn’t dress up as a RAAAAACIST! Confederate….

  14. mark l. says:

    mcenroe is right…
technically, robert byrd was NOT doing any reenactment, he was part of the ’cause’.
good thing he is dead-someone tell harry reid the news-or biden might be out there saying that if the country had elected robert back in the forties “we wouldn’t have had all these problems over the years”.

  15. mark l. says:

that is one of the ironies of the harry reid quote, about greatest living americans…
he selected a former kkk member as an example.

  16. mark l. says:

and a guy who drowned his secretary…
why does harry reid hate women and black people?

  17. nishner says:

So Harry Reid defending Harry Byrd = Bad
TeaTards defending Nazi Symphathizer = Good
As the old joke goes, look up ‘hypocrite’ in the dictionary, there’s a picture of a TeaTard!
    Sieg Heil!!!!

    • Blasphemer says:

Historical re-enactment is NOT Nazi sympathizing, look it up…oh, wait, that would require thinking and the truth, two things sheeple leftists can’t do.

  18. MarkJ says:

Soooo….do you also have a problem with guys who reenact WW II SOVIET troops? After all, the Red Army killed, raped, plundered, and pillaged its way through Eastern Europe in 1944-45. Ask an Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Ukrainian, Pole, or Geman of East Prussian descent about the Russians sometime. They’ll give you an earful.
barfo, the only thing you’ve definitly established with your posts is that you’re an incorrigible dumbass.

  19. barfo says:

The Soviets were our allies during WWII.
Josef Mengele’s Waffen SS unit was not.

  20. mark l. says:

“TeaTards defending Nazi Symphathizer = Good”
hey, i’m not here defending joe kennedy or his sons.
i did look at a list of election priorities…
    nazi sympathizers?
it didn’t exactly make the list.
I am glad to see you here, drawing the line in the sand for a +9 dem district. with a little effort, you might even be able to defend it. given how you guys are doing on the aforementioned list of american priorities, you may want to go national with this story…
oh, I see you already have. fire away. you look retarded.
curious about your take on halvorsan’s neo-nazi reenactment…
wouldn’t it kinda go well with the gop=nazi story? aside from the fact that she is a dem.
oh, I see you already have.

  21. mark l. says:

let me give you a little more recent historical perspective…
against bush’s budget director from 06-07?
the dem candidate is below 37% support.
the guy who worked for lehman, running for governor?
    against him, 43% support.
you have some serious down-ballot issues…
playing the nazi card is suddenly going to make democrats run out and vote?
that you guys are resurrecting nazi stuff is more an example of the deficiencies of your own party, than the gop candidate you want to beat.
    face it, you suck.
and, you really suck in ohio.

  22. mark l. says:

the only ‘nutritional value’ of this thread, for me?
georgie (schwartz) soros, the economic intellectual muse of the dem party, was out there, shoving anne frank in the ovens.
apparently, along with nazi-sympathizing, he has found ‘merit’ in the dem party.
(a tip of the hat to scott)

  23. barfo says:

    Sounds like desperation, Mark.
Your boy is the one parading around in Nazi gear…the voters of Ohio will be the one’s to decide if that’s okay.
What will the Republicans force3 their cultist to defend next.
    Nazi-worship, witchcraft…?

  24. mark l. says:

you leave broom hilda out of this…
    one word:

  25. ShortMemories says:

You know I’ve forgotten the name of the UN representative on war crimes who the Right, in unison, decided was totally a Nazi for collecting German memorabillia.
Re-enacting the exploits of a particular SS division with very specific reasoning as to why they were selected – an outrageous smear.

  26. richard says:

Um, Soros was 14 years old when he entered the camp, and if you know what it was like then, to be in a situation where you could be killed on a whim, you’d have a clearer picture. Soros never shoved Ann Frank or anyone else into an oven. Repeat, he was 14, and he was trying to stay alive when he helped confiscate clothing – all laborers in Auschwitz “worked for the Nazis” if you want to see it that way. Each was a loathsome coward and traitor – not. They worked to live. Those who couldn’t or wouldn’t perished. Repeat, Soros was absolutely not a Kapo and he never shoveled anyone into ovens. Repeat, he was 14 years old. Repeat, he was a guilty as any survivor of the camps. This kind of slander is vile, and it’s antisemitic. Hundreds of thousands of Jews labored for the Nazis. By your contorted thinking each is to be vilified and condemned. False, irrational, unacceptable.

  27. Drago says:

    This is hilarious.
Here is a short list of other reenactment roles played by Iott: [Iott] added that he has participated in re-enactments as a Civil War Union infantryman, a World War I dough boy and World War II American infantryman and paratrooper.
So, if the lefties are correct that Iott is some sort of nazi sympathizer for performing as a nazi soldier for reenactment purposes, then how do you explain his performing in the other WWII roles as a US infantryman and paratrooper?
Or as a Civil War Union infantryman? Or a World War I US “dough boy”?
Of course, my questions are rhetorical, since the left knows perfectly well that Iott is not a nazi sympathizer. But when your “Recovery Summer BABY” tactic has completely failed, and you’ve already given your union pals 2 car companies, and you’ve shoved gov’t health care down everyones throat without so much as bothering to figure out what was in the bill, what else are you gonna do? Run on your record? LOL Not very likely!

  28. mark l. says:

“This kind of slander is vile, and it’s antisemitic.”
the man pays liberals to manufacture slander.
i imagine his funding of the anti-j street lobby might fall in those parmeters.
by his own admission, he sold his own people out for the sake of his own survival.
he has a history of manipulating currency, for his own gain, with little reagrd for the economies he destroys. i know, i know…’if he didn’t do it, someone else would’. how many times is he going to use that line?
i can’t find ANY difference between the left’s recent fascination with the koch brothers, that is inconsistent with soros’ own actions.
that this guy is allowed to provide input into our economic decisions…is it becasue no one else possesses his ‘special’ knowledge, or no one else possesses his ‘influence’ over the democrat party?
maybe you missed the game that has been played above, richard.
you take a sliver of truth, and build a castle on conspiracy to malign someones motives. soros plays the same game. we all do.
soros has zero concern for those who he seeks to damage, why should YOU, care about him?
if you want, you can play along, or I’d suggest you start editting for everyone, libs and conservatives, above.

  29. richard says:

Every Jew in Auschwitz who survived “sold himself out” – and they all admit it. It was a matter of survival. He was never a Kapo – that is a lie. Going after J Street is not antisemitic. I am a Jew and highly critical of J Street and Israel. Anti-J-Street does not equal antisemitic. Soros had deep convictions and he brings out the worst in pig-headed people who reveal their own antisemitic demons in their baseless attacks. No one has been more vilified, a phenomenon I attribute to jealousy, pettiness and thinly veiled antisemitism.

  30. Satis nunc says:

    Come on.
    Are war re-enactments stupid? Yeah.
Should we be making anything out of what somebody plays when they play war with their friends? No.
Are the dems the only ones who go into hysterics over nothing? Definitely not.
Both sides lie, mislead, and exaggerate to try to affect the polls. It’s disgusting and frustrating, but don’t pretend your side doesn’t do it too. We have to clean up our own houses.

  31. mark l. says:

“No one has been more vilified…”
no one has made more of a personal investment in villification of people who hold a contrary view to his own. he believes truth is a commodity which can be pruchased, and is certain that ‘his’ truth is all there is.
his grand theme is a deep belief in socialism at any costs, or more accurately at any level of debt.
he’s a smart guy, he should see how bad a ponzi scheme it has become. when someone fails to support socialism, as in the case of germany’s consideration of backing away from the euro, he panics. in his tiny little mind, he sees ANY country gaining economic strength over the rest of the world as a crisis, yet he endorse a system which creates the very same thing he fears. First it was the US for having a stronger economy, then it was recently germany for considering depriving other weaker euro economies of their strength, and now he has moved on to fearing china. i imagine his resentment of china is twofold, in that they will not incur debt while maintaining the label of socialism/communism and the system of taxation they adopted is almost identical to reagan’s early 80’s system.
Technically, i believe in the ideas of socialism, but only if it is constrained by a legitimate budget…at that point it is actually ‘conservatism’ as only the socialist policies that can be afforded are paid for. none of the systems he is enamoured with fit this model. he endorses debt for the expediency of ‘now’, but offers no consideration of how it affects ‘tomorrow’.
the guy is 80, i wish him a longer life so he can witness the collapse of socialism.
this isn’t a request for 20 more years, 10 should suffice.
the really funny thing about soros…he is part of an elite club of world billionaires who make money when the world rises or falls. as society oscillates, the wealth of the world pools for these individuals. he promotes a system where the ‘working’ rich are resented, but because he throws trinkets out to the mob who get worked up over the disparity in wealth, they just assume he is one of them.
i wonder what soros would think if there was an actual ‘world wealth tax’, where the money not invested in production was taxed at 80%. would he mind parting with his wealth to fund the very govts he believes in?
the reason he set up a trust is for the specific purpose of keeping the govt from taking his wealth after he is gone. his instincts and his actions, belie his spoken motives.

  32. barfo says:

“the guy is 80, i wish him a longer life so he can witness the collapse of socialism.”
It’s hard for the dogmatic Right to admit Communist China has been propping up “Capitalist” America for over a decade.
They usually have to fall back on some idiotic proclamation about how the Commies are the real Capitalists now.
And then they go somewhere private and weep.

  33. mark l. says:

“It’s hard for the dogmatic Right to admit Communist China has been propping up “Capitalist” America for over a decade.”
society can have only one mistress.
    growth or actual socialism.
I have no doubt that if the US govt maxed out on taxes in the attempts to pay for socialism, the need for debt could be eliminated.
the inherent problem is that the other societies, that make growth their priority will quickly exceed the progress of the socialist committed country.
in the US we have been trying to have it both ways. we have moved towards socialism, but resist, quite rationally, the full embrace(paying for it) because other nations would feature a higher standard of living and quickly surpass us.
china will, bereft of a two party system, pursue growth. soros’ fear is quite rational. as they grow, and actually provide more services to their citizens, within the constraints of a budget, will actually still be progressing.
sorry barfo, we face inevitable decline. the ‘minimum payments’ on our national credit card are increasing to a point where we will decide between austerity and borrowing more…
do you hate china for lending us the money and sinking us further?
we are free to stop asking, but democrats will campaign against the idea, portraying our efforts to restrain spending as a crime against the poor.
i tend to think that we never win, and we never pick our mistress. but if increasing debt and social decline are all elements of dem theology, I think that your ideology will win, barfo.
“fall back on some idiotic proclamation about how the Commies are the real Capitalists now.”
they are more capitalistic than we are, as well as most of europe.

  34. mark l. says:

    let me elaborate the point…
their commitment is to growth, and they’ll pay for the socialism they can afford.
    the growth move is ingenuous.
the bigger they are the more money the have to lend(invest) later.
instead of self gratification, they sacrifice today, for the harvesting fo tomorrow.
just think barfo…we don’t just subsidize them by selling their goods in walmart, we subsidize them with our borrowing. dem spending/borrowing policies are helping china to follow this path.
    50 years, 100 years, 200 years…they ‘win’-if the term has any meaning.

  35. barfo says:

“dem spending/borrowing policies are helping china to follow this path.”
And so did all the money the Republicans borrowed from China when the were racking up year after year of deficit spending under Bush.
It still doesn’t turn China’s Commies into Capitalists.

  36. ShortMemories says:

“Should we be making anything out of what somebody plays when they play war with their friends? No.”
I agree with this, but it becomes null and void when there’s a photograph of you in an SS uniform.
You can be at a dress-up party, it doesn’t matter. It’s like the anti-VISA, not accepted anywhere.

  37. salvage says:

No, they are fairly painting Iott as someone who dresses up like a Nazi.
And not just any Nazis but the kind that rounded up Jews.
That’s someone with good sense and moral decency?

  38. mark l. says:

“It still doesn’t turn China’s Commies into Capitalists.”
    what are they, then?
    are they socialists?
look at their economic model, and tell me who they are.
they traded in their pjs of the 60-70’s for suits and ties.
this used to be the grand symbol of hippies growing up.

“And so did all the money the Republicans borrowed from China when the were racking up year after year of deficit spending under Bush.”
    read a federal budget…
obama didn’t get the money thru taxing the public.
he picked the same choices as the gop you deride, but on a larger scale.
bush, reagan debt bad, obama debt good?

  40. Rich Fader says:

Note to the left: Christoph Waltz and Ralph Fiennes and Bruno Ganz aren’t actually Nazis. They just played them in the movies. That’s why they call it acting.
I mean, really? I feel dumber having to put that disclaimer out there. Seriously, at some point, one of you mental giants is going to find pics of one of our candidates from when he flew for an aggressor squadron at Top Gun or Red Flag, wearing kinda-sorta-Russian gear, and try to paint him as a closet Commie. It’s getting that stupid. Stop, for God’s sake. Just stop.

  41. salvage says:

    Once again.
No one is calling him a Nazi. They are saying he likes to dress up like a Nazi. That is a fact. He is not an actor in a movie that is saying how bad the Nazis were he is doing something quite different for a group who seems to think that Nazi soldiers were honorable which of course they were not.
    See? Two different things? Different!

  42. TheRaven says:

Tell us, Riehl, does Rich IdIott re-enact all Waffen SS military tactics? Or does he just sashay around in his snappy uniform? Genuine re-enactors would portray the specific nature and purpose of their adopted army. The SS weren’t conscripts. They volunteered and swore an oath to Hitler to enforce Nazi ideology. Therefore, genuine re-enactment would feature popular SS tactics on the Eastern Front, including…
    * Spearing babies on bayonets
    * Forcing civilians to dig their own graves, then shooting them*
    * Raping young girls, then leaving them to bleed to death
    * Stacking dead civilians like cord wood, for kerosene-fueled bonfires
    * Letting millions of prisoners of war freeze and starve to death
    * Beating old women unconscious as they begged SS troops not to drag their husbands away to slave labor camps
    * Stealing food from civilians and leaving woman, children and babies to starve in the Russian winter
Does Rich IdIott have a fake marksmanship badge for baby-spearing, to match his other fake marksmanship badge, earned during his imaginary military service?
    * for genuine historic realism, the civilian re-enacters would need to beg for their lives, on their knees, in Polish, Lithuanian, Ukrainian, etc., while Waffen SS troops smoke, tell jokes and otherwise laugh at their plight as sub-human Slavs. Then, of course, these civilians are murdered and unceremoniously kicked into their graves. Bonus points for a reenactment in which all civilians aren’t shot at one time. The Nazi’s were murderously efficient. They’d keep a core group of victims alive to fill in the graves. Then this last group, if they were very lucky, might get shipped to a slave labor camp, where they’d die in a few more months.
