Ten-years-old – and after some investigation? That’s as unusual, as it is troubling.

“We’re not discussing her role or getting into any more details on her identity, although we feel she is responsible for the baby’s death,” said McCausland. “Manslaughter was the appropriate charge.”

Three-month-old Brooklyn Foss-Greenaway of Clinton died on July 8 while under the care of a baby sitter in Fairfield. State police declared the death a homicide Wednesday.

“The decision on charging the girl was made after consulting with the attorney general’s office,” said McCausland, who declined to give any additional details about the death. “The state medical examiner’s office continues to work on the case.”

This is disgraceful!! What kind of justice system does Maine have?? Who is pushing for this? Whoever made this decision should be fired. This charge will ruin the little girl’s life, has anyone thought of that?? And why would the parents give her to a babysitter of any age to stay overnight when the baby was so young?? There’s a lot more here than meets the eye.

If you did a little more research, you would know that the girl was just living in the babysitter’s home. Justice should be served regardless of age.

An age old question I guess….the 10 year old is still a child…it’s been proven that children cannot control their emotions….especially a child with A.D.D….the girl was wrong yes…but a few questions…why wasn’t the adult there responding to an infant screaming while her kid was beating the infant up and the next question is why the hell were there any meds within reach of a young child…most importantly why isn’t the adult siter being charged with murder in the 2nd degree as of yet????

kids know what they are doing. this charge was the right decision. don’t blame a.d.d as the reason the child reacted in such a way to a fussy baby. my syblings have a.d.d yet they know right from wrong. as do most 10 year olds. the intention was to shut the baby up and she did just that. 10 year olds are not stupid. she knew what she was doing. i have worked with kids for many many years and they are a lot more knowledgable than people give them credit for. she made her bed.

Look I agree she certainly needs to pay for her actions, and I can certainly understand would be be beyond upset if anything like this happened to any of my children. I feel for the mother of the infant, and this 10 year old little girl has some major issues. But charging her with manslaughter is a bit much,I would think that putting her in a facility where she can get some much needed help for some severe mental health issues would be better for her. As it is,she’ll be paying for her actions for the rest of her life. But still where the hell was the adult in all of this? That baby had to be screaming for quite a while, the actual sitter could have completely stopped this from occuring and she didn’t!

  7. Tanya says:

I agree, where the hell was the adult sitter? Why was she placed in with the ten year old at bed time? A ten year old with issues to boot? Where I agree she knows right from wrong, full grown women have gotten mental health care after killing their own children for snapping. Why have they not said how the sitter and the baby’s mother know each other? Not that the mother should be charged, but who the heck leaves their three month old overnight with someone other than family? How the heck did the ten year old have access to Meds? And how the heck did the sitter not hear a y of this occurring?? This case is screwed up in so many ways.

  8. Jmom says:

No way should this child be charged! Especially if she is ADD! Why the hell did the adult sitter leave the 3month old in the same room with her ADD diagnosed daughter?? Children, 10 year old CHILDREN, often cannot control their emotions. They developmentally are not capable at times. I sure hope this poor 10 year old girl who was put in an impossible situation, gets a really good lawyer and advocate who will see to it that the adult is responsible.

it doesn’t matter her age. being a child doesn’t matter if you commit commicide. the 10 year old girl deserves a fair trail and right charge- manslaughter. Having ADD doesn’t mean you don’t think and being a 10 year old girl possible on her period being emotional, is not excuse either. it is the girls fault the three month old baby is dead. The baby is dead. GONE. NEVER TO BE ALIVE AGAIN. The 10 year old monster is right to be charged with manslaughter.
