Camden, NJ to scrap police dept, going non-union over cost concerns
Camden looking at a non-union alternative for public employees? Is that the foundation of the left I hear starting to crack? It should also highlight the tremendous trouble all levels of government are in because of debt. That goes for federal, state and local governments. The clock is ticking and it’s close to midnight, folks.
This move should tell you that, as well.
Crime-ridden Camden, New Jersey – often referred to as the most dangerous city in the United States—is getting rid of its police department.
In the latest example of a cash-strapped municipality taking drastic measures to deal with swollen public sector liabilities and shrinking budgets, the city plans to disband its 460-member police department and replace it with a non-union “Metro Division” of the Camden County Police. Backers of the plan say it will save millions of dollars for taxpayers while ensuring public safety, but police unions say it is simply a way to get out of collective bargaining with the men and women in blue.
“This is definitely a form of union-busting,” Camden Fraternal Order of Police President John Williamson told FoxNews.com. “This method is unproven and untested, to put your faith in an agency that doesn’t even [yet] exist.”

With the best of intentions, limitless welfare is a cancer that destroys cities. A population excused from work pays no taxes; as in Camden, ultimately that means losing civic necessities from libraries to police protection. Without obligations of work, residents may suppliment entitlements by selling drugs, even murdering to protect drug turf. The only way to stop the downward spiral is to eliminate the free ride, getting them back to work and paying taxes that make their cities function and liveable. But will they starve without a government check? No, being able-bodied adults, they’ll just get a job like everyone else, now with motivation to do so.
What a great move by camden you can only gain ,The highest crime rate in the country .They cant do any worse and the savings are enormous.Get a job or go to work,live within your means
