Mark Levin: Damn it, defeat this RINO power grab!

Mark Levin takes to his Facebook page in reference to this BuzzFeed item.

Conservatives of all stripes, especially Tea Party activists, this is an attempt to destroy your ability to influence the presidential and vice presidential nomination process in the Republican Party.  It is an attempt to eviscerate the input of state parties.  It is a brazen assault on the grassroots.  And it is sleazy to the core.

I don’t often disagree with The Great One, but here I do.

I see this as a Ronulan counter-stroke, and nothing more. A one-off move to de-fang the Ron Paul crazies.

It can be dealt with very handily between now and next cycle.

    • zane says:

Rags, are you saying that only the Paulbots are behind this rule change? When did the Paulbots take over the Texas Eagle Foundation and Freedom Works? This is a rule change that will give Romney more authority than any other GOP candidate ever had.

I diagree with the Paulbots vehemently, but don’t sell them short, they know the rules. And they are just a small minority of the delegates. Levin is right; it has to be defeated.

      • Ragspierre says:

I am only saying that the convention integrity has to be protected by some means.

There are threats to that via the Ronulans, and from others who are clearly saboteurs.

Are the rules changes the right way to go? I suspect not the BEST way to go, and I hope some means comes out of the push and shove that is effective.

For a microcosm of what I’m talking about, see the account of the Rubio PRIVATE breakfast where he was heckled. It took credentials to get into that forum.

  2. I lean towards Rags’ position here, and it is surely intended to yoink out the Paulbots’ power-packs… they need to realize -as I did- that the primary season is over, and their guy lost

  3. Scoob says:

I completely disagree. What we have seen from the Romney folks is a desire to concentrate power. How about the House vote to streamline the Executive Branch nomination process for certain appointments? The House acted due to the Romney’s campaign desire for it to pass.

Now this. Today it will be used against the Paul Bots. Tomorrow the Tea Party.

I heard that a compromise has been reached and Romney and the RNC are backing down. That is good.

We have to elect Romney. But we still need to speak out when the Republicans try to concentrate power.

  4. Scoob says:

Correction: the Romney folks are only backing down on Rule 15/16, not Rule 12. We need both changes to be stopped.

  5. BR says:

Just one more layer of proof that Romney was a bought-and-paid-for disaster. He doesn’t want us, good- he can do without our votes, too.

  6. Ragspierre says:

The rule that allows the candidate to vet all delegates chosen at the state level to insure their loyalty is also simple common sense. One need only read this dispatch from Mary Grabar about delegates attending the GOP convention from Pennsylvania being members of the “Pennsylvania Working Families,” a front group for ACORN, to realize the efficacy of such a rule being in effect for the future. Opposition political activists have become adept at infiltrating GOP gatherings for several years and if state parties aren’t going to keep the enemy out of the convention, the national party must do it for them.

    • zane says:

The nunmber of Paul state convention disruptions was small in comparison to the number of actual conventions held. And the number of delegates who are loyal to Ron Paul is even smaller.

This is a power grab on the part of Romney, pure and simple.

      • Ragspierre says:

“One need only read this dispatch from Mary Grabar about delegates attending the GOP convention from Pennsylvania being members of the “Pennsylvania Working Families,” a front group for ACORN, to realize the efficacy of such a rule being in effect for the future.”

Why did you simply ignore that?

What does your observation have to do with the disruptive potential of the Ronulans?

  7. zane says:

Jeeze, now Rags is linking to Rick Moran, a liberal squich self-proclaimed “conservative” who thinks the GOP should move to the left to create a bigger “tent.”

    • Ragspierre says:

You didn’t read the piece, did you?

Open that lil’ mind, and let thoughts in. Then you can critique them.

Or you can put your hands on your ears and hum in you happy cocoon, like the Collective.

      • BR says:

The “Collective”, indeed – all the Followers must fawn silently in unison in Tampa. No expression of dissent may be heard at The King’s coronation.

      • BR says:

The purges have begun. The Republican party is getting smaller by the hour.

        Quote from Michelle Malkin’s website:

” … just got off the phone with a concerned Florida activist, Laura Noble, who informed me that both of Florida’s Rules Committee members, Peter Feaman and Kathleen King, have been removed from the Rules committee and replaced with Romney-appointed delegates.

Clearly anticipating a grassroots backlash against the “compromise” on Rule 15 and the changes on Rule 12 has caused the Romney camp to preemptively replace delegates to ensure they have support on the Rules Committee.

It’s enough to make your blood boil. Please call your state’s Rules Committee delegates here and ask that they oppose the “compromise” on Rule 15, oppose the changes to Rule 12, and support the full Minority Reports on the Rules.”

        • Scoob says:

The change to Rule 12 allows the RNC to circumvent the compromise to Rule 15. All this is being done so the base can’t hold the RNC to their promises: repeal ObamaTaxCare, don’t raise taxes, and cut spending. They can change the rules after the convention to protect incumbents from “tough”, i.e., traitorous, votes. If this passes, I’ll vote for Romney, but I’m not volunteering. I got better things to do.
