Clint Eastwood speaks: Obama “greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people”
After A week as topic No. 1 in American politics, former Carmel Mayor Clint Eastwood said the outpouring of criticism from left-wing reporters and liberal politicians after his appearance at the Republican National Convention last Thursday night, followed by an avalanche of support on Twitter and in the blogosphere, is all the proof anybody needs that his 12-minute discourse achieved exactly what he intended it to.
Boom: “It was supposed to be a contrast with all the scripted speeches, because I’m Joe Citizen,” Eastwood said. “I’m a movie maker, but I have the same feelings as the average guy out there.”
Read it all. It may make your day.
“President Obama is the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people,” Eastwood told The Pine Cone this week. “Romney and Ryan would do a much better job running the country, and that’s what everybody needs to know. I may have irritated a lot of the lefties, but I was aiming for people in the middle.”
He had no idea that overnight, a rebellion had erupted online against the media’s condemnation of him, with thousands of bloggers, Twitterers and commentators calling him, “a genius,” “1,000 times more brilliant than the media,” and saying he’s “only gotten better with age.”
They also started posting their own versions of Eastwood’s empty chair in droves (“eastwooding”), and, on YouTube, replays of his remarks at the convention were being viewed millions of times.

Surely Clint knows you will always, without fail, anger the lefties just because you exist and you don’t fully share their views. One only needs to look at blogs a websites to see how true, committed progressives have so fully adopted personal attacks and name calling as if they think it is a valid and effective method of debate or discussion. The “R” word has become meaningless after such endless reactionary responses. The media follows suit in many cases, sadly.
What makes this episode so enjoyable is that Eastwood didn’t use any affectation at all. He is a ‘this is me’ kind of person, and it shows every time he speaks. Even on talk shows there is little pretend about him. There are some entertainers who become political in public. Most often they come of as playing a scripted role. When they are more ‘this is me’, it comes off as a noisy screed without much affect.
Perhaps what pisses off the left and the media the most is the Eastwood has been outrageously effective. Contrast that with, say, all of the entertainers who spoke out against Bush, whether offensive or civil.

So true … Actual 2008 was a brilliant strategy by the Dems and looking forward to the book – just hope the books final chapter ends in 2012. We shall see though.
Such a kickback against his speech sent Pale Rider to retrieve his pistols, dust them off, strap ‘em on, and head into the street to wait for Marshall Stockburn and his lawless deputies.
Clint Eastwood was terrific at the Republican National Convention. He has more brains at 82 than Obama will ever have at any age. What a classy guy, and how funny. Imagine, no teleprompter. We love you, Clint.
We loved Clint’s schtick in my house (so Bob Newhart)….
ALso loved that he gave the interview about his creative process to his hometown paper – the Carmel Pine Cone.
Hollywood awesome (two words I have never put together until now).
We totally get Clint – and he totally gets us.
Hollywood awesomeness.
