Speaking outside the home, Steve Whitmore, sheriff spokesman for LA County, would not confirm the identity of the family but said police had received a call at 7pm about a possible disturbance. ’I'm not going to get into specifics of the call but yes, there was some need for our presence to be here to provide safety,’ he said.

The protection came as Nakoula was revealed as the movie’s elusive producer, who had previously claimed his name was ‘Sam Bacile’.
