Schwarzenegger: Karl Rove never saw California coming
Politico puts a rather dumb Beltway-centric headline on this item: Arnold Schwarzenegger felt snubbed by Karl Rove.
More interesting is the possibility that Rove is now so establishment, he’s not the guy to be guiding on if the GOP wants to push forward and start making some genuine political gains. I’m hesitant to get into it too much, now. But the GOP could be looking into an abyss after November.
Conservatives have just about had it with the establishment GOP. And with a younger, more libertarian brand of politico coming up, the GOP may not be able to act like they’re the only game in town on the Right any longer. Factually, they’ve caused more problems than they’ve solved in Washington.
According to excerpts obtained Friday by The Associated Press in advance of the book’s release, it turned out to be an awkward visit.
Not only did Rove tell Schwarzenegger the recall election that eventually ousted Democrat Gray Davis would not happen, he introduced the actor to then-national security adviser Condoleezza Rice as his pick to run for California governor in 2006.
Schwarzenegger felt snubbed.
He asks, “How could Rove have been so wrong?”

Amen!!
Yeah. The problem with the ‘establishment’, is they become ‘pragmatic’ and overly interested in getting along. They sell out their conservative values to fit into their now perceived ‘real world’….which we are never to do in any world….and the one they are so anxious to hold onto is not ‘real’ at all.

The TEA Party said they would stay with the GOP through this election. If Romney loses, all bets are off.

Well said!
In the long run, can anyone say that the actual outcome in California was better than what Rove hoped for?
I voted in the recall to remove Gray Davis and I voted for Arnie as his replacement.
The year’s that followed with the Dems in Sacramento running roughshod over the people of California were horrible.
And Arnie appeared either incapable or uninterested in doing anything to stop them.
I’ve long since left California and so have plenty of others.
The state is headed for a calamitous fall, and Arnie presided over its decline.
