Mitt Romney rebound?

Ironic that Politico would grasp the value of the Drudge tape as a part of the mix, while some Republicans are incapable. From the perspective of the base, this race badly needed energy. The video’s value in terms of adding that, even if nothing else, is huge. But then, one can hardly expect Republicans out of touch with their own base to get it.

Maybe there are second chances in presidential campaigns. And Mitt Romney’s could just be on the horizon, but any potential comeback will be triggered largely by whether he can turn the first debate tonight in his favor.

Playbook said Vice President Joe Biden’s gaffe yesterday about “a middle class that has been buried the last four years,” a 2007 video of President Barack Obama that has animated the right wing but was largely ignored by mainstream media, and tightening polls in Virginia and Florida could give Romney momentum.

I really believe that Romney had some momentum building before this.

The polls had showed a significant tightening in the last few days, even those relying on a 2007 turnout model (which is real bad news for Obama and good for Romney).

And unlike some nervous nellies (I’m looking right at you Althouse) I doubt it will derail that or besmirch Mitt.
